Here's some exciting news for all you celestial body enthusiasts out there! Get ready for a journey of astronomical proportions as Holland America Line is amping up their 2024 Solar Eclipse cruise programming with the addition of two highly acclaimed astronomy experts. These stargazers aboard Koningsdam and Zaandam will elevate your eclipse experience from a mere spectacle to a memorable, enriching journey.

Setting Course for the Stars

Beginning in spring 2024, lucky passengers sailing aboard the Koningsdam and Zaandam will be treated to an exclusive celestial event like no other. These vessels will navigate into the thin strip known as the "path of totality," ensuring a total view of the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse, the first in North America in seven years.

Adam Burgasser, a distinguished Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of California, San Diego, will be guiding guests on the Koningsdam. His expert insight will turn this already exceptional journey into an immersive, educational adventure. "For many, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so being able to receive the guidance of a renowned physicist like Dr. Burgasser is an exciting opportunity for our guests," stated Bill Prince, vice president of entertainment for Holland America Line.

A Stellar Experience

Prepare to be starstruck as you engage with lectures, demonstrations, and firsthand tips on how to get the most out of your eclipse viewing. Burgasser will educate guests on the ship's World Stage, helping you create your own eclipse viewers and ensuring you view the rare occurrence safely.

"This first total solar eclipse in North America in seven years is something astronomers — amateur and professional — are all excited to observe, and there's no better or unique place to observe it than at sea off the coast of Mexico," said Burgasser, eagerly anticipating the voyage.

The Koningsdam's 22-day Solar Eclipse Cruise embarks on March 23, positioning the ship along Mexico's coast for the perfect view. Following the eclipse, it will journey to the tropical paradise of Hawaii.

Guests aboard the Zaandam won't miss out on this celestial treat either. Presenter Jim McParland will provide expertise to augment the eclipse experience with lectures and demonstrations.
