The California Science Center is set to unveil "LEONARDO DA VINCI: Inventor. Artist. Dreamer." on March 2, 2024, a groundbreaking exhibition that celebrates the genius of Leonardo da Vinci. This immersive showcase, developed in collaboration with the Leonardo3 Museum of Milan and Running Subway Productions, will bring to life the Renaissance master's visionary work as an inventor, artist, and thinker.
Spanning the realms of science, art, music, and engineering, da Vinci's prolific output and futuristic inventions have cemented his legacy as a quintessential Renaissance figure. The exhibition promises to offer a deep dive into his world, featuring more than 30 models of his innovative machines, meticulously constructed by contemporary Italian artisans from da Vinci's detailed designs. Highlights include the awe-inspiring Flying Bicycle, the 33-foot Flying Eagle, and the Mechanical Lion, alongside more than a dozen full-scale models.
Interactive displays and hands-on experiences will allow visitors to engage directly with da Vinci's inventions. Guests can test their engineering skills by attempting to recreate his self-supporting bridge, operate a paddle boat, and explore other interactive learning activities. Additionally, the exhibition will showcase digitally restored reproductions of da Vinci's iconic artworks, such as the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa, offering insights into the original appearance of these masterpieces and the details lost over time.
Jeffrey Rudolph, President and CEO of the California Science Center, expressed enthusiasm for the exhibition, stating, "Through models of da Vinci's visionary machines, hands-on exhibits, and graphic reproductions, Science Center guests will experience da Vinci's use of art and science throughout his work, and his mastery of both. We are excited to host an exhibition that so perfectly illustrates the importance of both science and art."
"LEONARDO DA VINCI: Inventor. Artist. Dreamer." not only celebrates da Vinci's historical contributions but also connects them to the present and future through the accompanying IMAX movie "Cities of the Future 3D." This film explores contemporary engineering innovations, from electric flying cars to solar power technologies, highlighting the ongoing relevance of da Vinci's spirit of invention.
Tickets for the exhibition are available now, with adult combo tickets for both the exhibition and IMAX movie priced at $28.95. Discounts are available for Members, groups of 15 or more, and private events. The exhibition runs until September 2, 2024, after which it will continue its national and international tour.
