On Friday morning, flights from several major U.S. airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, were grounded due to a communication issue, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The ground stop affects all flights from these airlines, regardless of their destination.
The duration of the ground stop is currently uncertain, though the FAA indicated an update would be available by 5 a.m. ET.
The grounding appears to be linked to a CrowdStrike update that is affecting systems in various sectors. This comes after a significant Microsoft outage on Thursday that left Frontier Airlines at a standstill for hours. Although the ground stop for Frontier has since been lifted, the outage disrupted their systems, prompting the airline to offer refunds to affected passengers.
Other airlines, including Allegiant and SunCountry, also experienced difficulties, particularly with booking, check-in, and trip-managing functions online. On Friday morning, the FAA announced the grounding of all Allegiant flights.
