A Southwest Airlines flight preparing for departure was canceled Friday evening after a bullet struck the aircraft at Dallas Love Field Airport, according to airline officials. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The Boeing 737-800, designated as Flight 2494, was bound for Indianapolis International Airport when it was hit by gunfire at approximately 8:30 p.m. The bullet struck the right side of the plane, near the cockpit, as the aircraft was taxiing for takeoff. The crew immediately returned the plane to the gate, and passengers were safely deboarded, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.
“Law enforcement was contacted, and the aircraft was removed from service,” Southwest Airlines said in a statement. The airline has since arranged an alternative flight for the affected passengers.
Dallas Police Department responded to the scene, and runway 13R/31L was temporarily closed as part of the investigation. Airport officials later confirmed that operations resumed with minimal disruption to other flights.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the source of the gunfire or ongoing investigative efforts. The incident remains under investigation.
