Tampa International Airport (TPA) will halt operations starting at 9 a.m. Eastern time on Tuesday as it braces for the arrival of Hurricane Milton. This will mark the second time in less than two weeks that the airport has closed, following a similar suspension ahead of Hurricane Helene's landfall on September 26.
Nearby St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) also plans to suspend operations, with its final flights scheduled for Tuesday. The airport will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Allegiant Airlines, which operates the majority of commercial flights at PIE, has advised passengers to prepare for disruptions.
As of Monday afternoon, Hurricane Milton is a Category 4 storm, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 mph. The National Hurricane Center projects the storm will make landfall on Florida's west coast by late Wednesday.
While other major Florida airports have not yet announced closures, many have posted alerts on their websites indicating they are closely monitoring the storm’s path and intensity.
