Hello, food enthusiasts and wanderlusters! The culinary world is abuzz with excitement as the 15th edition of the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong & Macau 2023 is out, with a dazzling display of gastronomic stars lighting up the foodie heavens.
This year, a whopping 95 restaurants have been awarded the prestigious MICHELIN Stars, with 78 in Hong Kong and 17 in Macau. Fifteen restaurants have been awarded or promoted to One, Two, or Three MICHELIN Stars. A striking 72 food establishments have been awarded a Bib Gourmand, with 65 in Hong Kong and 7 in Macau.
Despite travel restrictions, the culinary scene in Hong Kong remains vibrant and passionate. From veterans who continuously go the extra mile, to new projects catering to different nationalities and taste buds, it has been a dynamic year.
Three MICHELIN Stars for Ta Vie
A standing ovation for Restaurant Ta Vie, which has been promoted to Three MICHELIN Stars. Chef Hideaki Sato's innovative and "pure, simple, and seasonal" cuisine has been instrumental in securing this accolade. With this new addition, the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong & Macau recommends 10 restaurants worth a special journey.
Two MICHELIN Stars for New and Promoted Restaurants
Bo Innovation, Lai Ching Heen, and Rùn have each earned two MICHELIN Stars, thanks to their extraordinary culinary offerings. From playful creations nodding to Hong Kong food culture to the traditional preparation of seasonal ingredients with a modern twist, these restaurants truly exemplify culinary excellence.
One MICHELIN Star for New and Promoted Restaurants
Six Hong Kong restaurants, including D.H.K, Godenya, Nagamoto, Noi, The Chairman, and The Demon Celebrity, have been newly awarded One MICHELIN Star. Estro, Kappo Rin, and Neighborhood have been promoted within the selection to receive one MICHELIN Star. In Macau, Huaiyang Garden and Five Foot Road have also joined the One MICHELIN Star club.
A Green Star for Sustainability
In this year's guide, Mora has been recognized with the MICHELIN Green Star for its sustainable commitments. This recognition puts Mora alongside Amber, Roganic, and IFTM Educational Restaurant, which were previously awarded the Green Star for their eco-friendly practices.
Special Awards
This year, the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong & Macau introduced three special awards: the Service Award, Sommelier Award, and Young Chef Award. These awards were given to Kit Li from Sichuan Moon, Jacky Luk from Forum, and Steve Lee from Hansik Goo, respectively, to recognize their exceptional talent and dedication to their craft.
New Bib Gourmand Establishments
Six new establishments in Hong Kong, including Fisholic, Sai Kwan Lo Jo, Saya, Ship Kee, Twins Liangpi Limited, and Yi Jia, have been awarded a Bib Gourmand, which recognizes exceptional value-for-money gourmet experiences.
"Since the launch of the first edition of the MICHELIN Guide in Hong Kong & Macau in 2008, we have seen tremendous growth and evolution of the local culinary scene," said Poullennec. "Hong Kong is a destination that is never short of talents with creativity in the industry, and we are pleased to add six locally-owned neighborhood stalls offering casual yet tasty bites to the Bib Gourmand selection."
