HX, formerly known as Hurtigruten Expeditions, has announced the cancellation of its first two Alaska cruises of the season because of technical issues with its ship, the Roald Amundsen.
The Roald Amundsen, one of the line's newest vessels and the world's first hybrid electric cruise ship, is currently undergoing planned maintenance at a shipyard in Panama. During this maintenance, "unforeseen technical repairs" were identified, according to a letter sent to booked guests. These repairs have delayed the ship's departure for Alaska, necessitating the cancellation of two scheduled cruises in May.
The affected cruises include a May 17 voyage departing from Vancouver and a May 29 voyage from Seward back to Vancouver.
In response to the disruption, HX is offering affected guests options for rebooking. Guests can choose to rebook on an alternative voyage in the region later this year at no additional cost. Alternatively, they can receive a future cruise voucher worth 125% of the price of their canceled cruise.
Despite these setbacks, HX remains optimistic that the Roald Amundsen will be ready to sail its June 10 cruise out of Vancouver.
