UPDATE: Fatal Avalanche at Palisades Tahoe Resort

Palisades Tahoe has reported a tragic update following the avalanche that occurred this morning on the Palisades side of the resort. The incident took place at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the GS gully area, to the skier’s right of the KT-22 chairlift.

In response to the avalanche, Palisades Tahoe Ski Patrol, along with over 100 resort personnel and members of the public, immediately conducted a thorough search of the area. The search utilized avalanche transceivers, probes, RECCO Rescue System technology, and avalanche rescue dog teams.

Avalanche at Palisades Tahoe: Search Underway for Missing Persons

Palisades Tahoe, formerly known as Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows, is currently facing a critical situation following an avalanche that occurred on the morning of January 10th. The incident took place specifically above the GS gully area of KT-22 on the Palisades side of the mountain.

Unofficial reports from employees indicate that there are multiple people missing in the GS chute area. The severity of the situation is underscored by reports of "multiple burials on GS bowl," leading to the closure of both mountains for safety reasons.

FAA Orders Grounding of Boeing 737 Max 9 Planes After Alaska Airlines Jet Suffers Blowout

Federal officials have mandated the immediate grounding of Boeing 737 Max 9 jetliners for inspections following an incident where an Alaska Airlines plane suffered a blowout, leaving a gaping hole in the fuselage. The required inspections, taking approximately four to eight hours per aircraft, affect about 171 airplanes worldwide. As of Saturday morning, more than a quarter of the fleet had been inspected with no concerning findings reported.

Here We Go Again: Boeing Advises 737 Max Inspections for Loose Bolt

Boeing has issued a recommendation to operators of its 737 Max airplanes to inspect for a loose bolt in the rudder control system. This advisory comes after an unnamed airline discovered a bolt with a missing nut during routine maintenance of a 737. Additionally, Boeing found a similar issue in an undelivered 737 Max, where a nut was not properly tightened.

On Thursday, the U.S. State Department released a worldwide travel advisory for American citizens, urging them to remain vigilant during their international travels.

The advisory highlighted, "Given the escalating tensions in various global regions, coupled with the potential risks of terrorist activities, protests, or aggressive acts targeting U.S. nationals and their interests, the State Department recommends heightened caution for U.S. travelers abroad." The statement did not specify any particular event or region as the catalyst for this advisory.

Caution Urged for U.S. Travelers to Central and South America

Caution Urged

The U.S. Department of State is advising citizens to "rethink their travel plans" to Jamaica and Colombia due to increasing crime rates and, in the case of Colombia, the risk of terrorism. Haiti has recieved the highest level advisory: Do Not Travel. 

Periodically, the department evaluates the threats posed to Americans abroad and had previously issued travel warnings for both Colombia and Jamaica. These have been reevaluated and updated recently.
