El Al, Israel’s national airline, has announced a waiver on change and cancellation fees for passengers in response to escalating violence with Hezbollah and growing concerns of further conflict involving Iran. This comes after recent missile attacks on Israel and suspensions of flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

United Airlines Expands Wine Offerings with Women-Owned Brands in Domestic Economy

Starting October 1, United Airlines will enhance its domestic economy wine list with new options from women-owned brands, Just Enough Wines and Maker Wine. These additions include a rosé and an exclusive-to-United brut bubbles, complementing existing red and white selections. The airline, which has served over 20 million glasses of wine so far in 2024, aims to provide economy passengers with a more premium inflight experience through these high-quality, canned wines.

Southwest Airlines to Introduce Extra-Legroom Seats and Assigned Seating by 2026

Customers flying with Southwest Airlines will soon notice changes in the seating arrangements, as the airline plans to introduce extra-legroom seats in the first quarter of next year. However, these seats will not be sold as a separate product until the first half of 2026.

During the interim, early-boarding passengers will have the opportunity to select the extra-legroom seats if available. Southwest CEO Bob Jordan explained, "It takes time to implement any significant initiative. We've been wired for 53 years to do open seating."

Cathay Pacific to Launch Dallas-Hong Kong Route in April 2024

Cathay Pacific is set to expand its U.S. network with the addition of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to its routes. Beginning April 24, 2024, the airline will offer four weekly flights connecting Dallas with its home base in Hong Kong. The Oneworld Alliance member will use Airbus A350-1000 aircraft on the route, offering business, premium economy, and economy cabins. Cathay Pacific will be the only airline offering direct flights on this route.

Delta Air Lines and SAS Launch Codeshare Agreement for Improved Transatlantic Connections

Delta Air Lines and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the flag carrier for Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, have signed a new codeshare agreement, set to take effect on September 25. This partnership follows SAS’s entry into the SkyTeam alliance on September 1.

The agreement is designed to enhance travel options for customers flying between North America and Scandinavia. Passengers will benefit from improved connections and reciprocal loyalty rewards. According to SAS, travelers will be able to earn and redeem Delta SkyMiles or SAS EuroBonus points on flights operated by either carrier.

SAS to Launch New Seasonal Service Between Denmark and Seattle

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is set to introduce a new seasonal route connecting Copenhagen and Seattle, starting on May 21. The service will operate five times per week, offering travelers a direct link between Denmark and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

This marks Seattle as SAS's 10th U.S. destination from Copenhagen, adding to its existing routes to Atlanta, Boston, Newark, New York, Los Angeles, Washington Dulles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Miami. Additionally, SAS operates flights from Stockholm to both Newark and Miami, as well as a route from Oslo to Newark.

U.K. Expands Electronic Travel Authorization for U.S., European Travelers by 2025

Starting in 2025, travelers from the U.S., Europe, and various other countries will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the United Kingdom. Initially launched in 2023 for several Middle Eastern nations, the ETA program is set to expand to include non-Europeans from January 8, 2025, and European travelers from April 2, 2025. The application process opens on November 27, 2024, for non-Europeans and March 5, 2025, for Europeans.
